Our Founder
Hemendra Varma
Founder Director
Hemendra Varma is a Mechanical Engineer from IIT, Kharagpur and is a graduate of the accelerated Management Education Program (MEP) from IIM, Ahmedabad.
With over 50 years of working experience, the first 15 years were spent in the industry. He started his corporate career with Voltas in 1972 for nearly a decade. Subsequently he took up the position of Chief Executive of G. Claridge, a company manufacturing paper-pulp moulded articles. His last stint in the corporate world was with Jenson & Nicholson as General Manager, Manufacturing.
In 1987, he started his management consultancy called Management Productivity Systems operating in the areas of Operations Management, MIS and Organisation & Human Resources Development. Apart from consulting, he has been regularly conducting in-company training programmes in various organisations as well.
The 5S Institute was founded in January 2005 with the aim of helping companies become world class, using & implementing the 5S approach and methodology. Headquartered in Mumbai, this is India’s (and, indeed, the world’s) first Institute dedicated to providing training and implementation assistance in 5S.
Over the last two decades, the institute has conducted over 200 programs across various industries – Steel, Engineering, Petro-chem, Garments, Health, Justice, Defence, Banking, Power, Electronics & several others.
As a thought leader, he has authored a number of articles on a variety of subjects, which have been published in newspapers and journals like Economic Times, Financial Express, Business Standard, Indian Management, Management Review, Himmat, HRD Newsletter etc.
